To be eligible for tutoring, you must be attending class regularly, participating, turning in assignments, taking notes, & striving for a positive relationship with your instructor. This also includes contacting your instructor during his/her office hours if you begin to experience problems in your course.
It is only after you have done all the beforementioned things, that you are eligible for tutoring services.
Students are limited to 2-3 Tutoring sessions per week, depending on tutor availability. This may go down to one session per week if we are at maximum capacity. You may make an appointment one week in advance. We do not make recurring, weekly appointments.
Attendance Policy: You will lose your tutoring privileges for the semester after:
§ Three (3) missed appointments
§ Five (5) cancelled appointments
Missed appointments include: not showing up for an appointment, arriving 15 minutes late, cancelling any time after your scheduled appointment, or having someone other than yourself cancel your appointment.
Appointments are made through Mariah, the Learning Resource Coordinator.
To cancel an appointment email AAC@scciowa.edu, call (319) 208-5291 or stop into the AAC.
Expectations of students receiving tutoring include:
·You must have an appointment to receive tutoring & check in when you arrive.
·You must be checking your SCC email regularly. Emails from the AAC (& other areas of the college) come through your SCC email. Please note that your Canvas inbox is NOT the same as your SCC email. Your SCC email is accessed through Hawknet.
·You are responsible for remembering your appointment. You will receive an email reminder for your AAC Tutoring appointment to your SCC email.
·Be prepared for every tutoring session with materials such as books, notes, calculator, syllabus & attempted homework. The AAC will not provide materials for students
- If you are coming in for a writing session, please bring a PRINTED copy of your paper.
·You must enter the AAC with something done. Tutors will not do homework for you.
·Show respect for the AAC, your tutor, other tutors, & other students by speaking kindly to all, keeping your voice at a reasonable level, not interrupting other sessions & knowing the expectations of the AAC (aka: we will not be doing the work for you). Please also be mindful of phone usage during a session.
·No phone calls in the AAC. If you need to make or take a phone call, that’s just fine! Just exit the AAC & library to do so in the hallway.
·Your session is limited to your scheduled appointment. The maximum appointment is 50 minutes. When that time is up, your session is over. Please aware of time.
·Report any issues or concerns to the Learning Resource Coordinator (contact information above) Please do not contact tutors directly.
I have read & understand the Tutor Agreement for receiving tutoring services through the AAC at SCC. I understand that if I do not adhere to these expectations, I may lose my tutoring privileges.
